Since I last posted we have received another 1/4 inch of rain, and more is likely to start falling anytime now. I have it on good authority that doppler radar indicates rainfall is due to reach the coast in another five minutes, and will likely reach us within 15 minutes.
The gallon bottles are all full of harvested rainwater, and one 44 gallon tub is waiting for the coming rain harvest.
The automated irrigation system was turned off in time to not go off yesterday, and it is still off so that it will not go on Monday.
Today I transplanted the following:
-One Marion Rutabaga
-Waltham Turnip Seedlings
-Cabbage Mix seedlings
-Broccoli Piracicaba seedlings
-Volunteer heirloom parsnip seedlings that I potted up a few weeks ago
Today I seeded the following in the ground among the transplanted seedlings:
-Lutz Salad Leaf Beets, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds packed for 2013
Today I also seeded the following in pots:
-Cauliflower Purple of Sicily, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, packed for 2013
-Violet De Galmi Onion, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, packed for 2013
-Ishikura Onion, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, packed for 2013
All are open pollinated.
The Ishikura Onion variety is a bunching green onion variety that has extremely long stalks that are white if hilled up.
The Violet De Galmi onion variety comes from Southeast Niger and is a short day onion with flat, thick pinkish purple bulbs. Perhaps I'll finally have a variety that bulbs up in this climate.
